A little late for 4th of July projects, but that’s not the only event that might use these.

You can download the sample from the product page: The Mega Action Bundle
I have an old version of PS, and it works fine:
Original image on left, PS action on right. The freebie sample is just for the painterly effect.
Edited to add: a second one from The CoffeeShop Blog:
One in time for St. Patrick’s Day and the other looks useful for postwork effects.
Also, if you’re on the hunt for new fonts, HG Designs has a couple of posts on freebies (some commercial restrictions will apply) here and here.
I have been very lazy with free stuff and rendering. I think it’s the weather. About this time of year, I am really, really tired of winter. Not that winter cares, as we’re due for a few more inches of snow today. 😐
There are four styles in this PS action, but the one highlighted above on the smiling elder reminds me a lot of the Topaz Clean filter I have — but about $30 cheaper (though the plugin has a lot of options and controls and also works in PSP.) I use Topaz Clean a lot, as a layer rather than full strength, for illustrated and toon-ish effects.
Get it here.
I was chatting with a friend the other day and we were discussing graphics and file formats in Paint Shop Pro — which she uses exclusively — and I was surprised to learn she didn’t know it’s possible to convert .ai files to .pdf and read them in PSP as well as PS.
Yup; just change the .ai file extension to .pdf and you’re good to go. The .pdf file acts pretty much like an .eps file, so it’s possible to scale it up or down without a loss of quality.
Not all .ai files can be converted to .pdf, but most of them will work.
